Reinstalling the dictionary

Go to Bryancollege.edu
On the bottom left, click "Online Campus"
Download MS101 Writer Dictionary
Save to desktop (Select "Save" not "Open")
In CaseCAT in your User, in System Files, restore (Tools-->Restore)

Fixing the /P-NT problem (p. 155)

Problem:
The stroke /P-NT is supposed to translate a decimal point with a space in front of it. (Realtime Theory, p. 155). It doesn't.

Solution:

Change the dictionary entry for /P-NT

1: Open the Dictionary and navigate to the /P-NT entry.

1) Select "Manage Dictionary" from the Function menu.

2) Double click the System Files icon. (It looks like a briefcase).

3) Double-click the Personal Dictionary icon. (It looks like a book). This opens the dictionary.

4) Press CTRL+F to open the find menu.

5) Search for "P-NT"

6) Case CAT will take you to the dictionary entry for "P-NT". Most likely it will be ".<Delete Space>" We will change this.

2:Change the Dictionary Entry

1) Right click on the entry. Select "Modify" from the right-click-popup-menu. This brings up the Modify Dictionary Entry box.

2) In the "Text" field enter the following:

<Sticky Space>.<Delete Space>

It's a good idea to copy and paste it from here so you don't mess it up.

3) Click OK

Fixing the Hurx and Birx in Case Cat

Problem:

Sten-Ed Theory uses "number words" to stroke large numbers. (These words are colloquially referred to as "Hurx and Birx," from the number words for "hundred" and "billion". They are explained fully on page 162 of the Sten-Ed Realtime Theory text. )

1 HURBGS THOURBGS 422 Should translate as "100,422". But it doesn't.

Solution:

A: Tweak the Translate Options.
B: Change the dictionary entries for the number words.

Step One: Turn on Automatic Number Conversion

1) Click the Translate/Edit button.

2)Click the Options button.

3)Check the "Automatic Number Conversion" checkbox.

Step Two: Set the "Digits Convert with Commas" option

1) Click the Advanced button.

• This button is in the Translate Options box on the
  "Input" tab, if you aren't already there. (You will be if you are proceding from
  step one, above).


• If you don't see the button, you have an outdated version. You
  need to update Case CATalyst.

2) Find the "Digits with words convert with commas up to" field.
3) Set this field to "millions"(it's a pull-down list).

4)Test the feature. It may work at this point. If it doesn't, go on to the next step.

Step 3: Tweak the Dictionary

1)From the "Function" menu select "Manage Dictionary"
2)Double-click System Files.
3) Double-click Personal Dictionary. The dictionary will open.
4)Type Ctrl+F. This will open the "Find" menu.
5) Make sure that the "Steno" radio button is checked. Type "Hurx" in the text entry field. (Type it in English...the system will change it to steno. Click OK.
6)The system will display a highlighted row. This row is where the "Hurx" entry is defined. Most likely it will be a number conversion. We are going to change this to "hundred."
7)Right-click the row. From the right-click menu, select "modify."
8) In the "Text" field, type hundred.
9)Click OK.
10) Repeat steps 4-8 making the following changes:

• birx becomes billion
• mirx becomes million

NOTE: After applying these changes, you can get all numerals, or all words. You cannot get a combination of the two. For example, you can get "100" or "one hundred", but you cannot get "1 hundred."

NOTE: This is a new feature in Case CAT. Make sure you have the latest version. (the latest version is 9.080 as of this writing.)
